Despite a weak European economic backdrop, investors were encouraged by leaders’ aggressive measures to address the European sovereign debt crisis. The European Central Bank’s (ECB) Outright Monetary Transaction plan, banking union proposal, and restructured terms for Greek bailout loans all convinced investors that the risk of a euro breakup has substantially reduced. Serious efforts from U.S. lawmakers to avert the $600 billion fiscal cliff further underpinned market optimism during the quarter. The Fund maintained a pro-cyclical bias amid the loose monetary conditions.
Equity valuations remain relatively attractive. Companies with global exposure, strong balance sheets and solid cash generation will likely continue to generate solid returns. The Fund focused on high quality growth companies at reasonable valuations.
