Portfolio Update
Quarterly Update

Canadian equities rose over the quarter as investor confidence continued to be buoyed by strong policy responses from the U.S. Federal Reserve Board and the European Central Bank. Equity prices were also helped by the emergence of positive economic news from China - which is a major consumer of Canadian commodities - and by improvements in U.S. housing and employment data. However, gains were moderated somewhat as political wrangling over solutions to the fiscal cliff distracted investors. The S&P/TSX Composite Index rose 1.7 percent over the quarter. Eight of the Index’s ten sectors rose, led by consumer staples, information technology and industrials.
