Portfolio Update
Quarterly Update
North American equity markets finished the year supported by accommodative monetary policy and a reduction in tail risks (e.g. neither a Chinese hard landing nor a European solvency event came to pass). As we enter 2013, the underlying momentum is much stronger. Chinese growth has started to accelerate. The U.S. continues to benefit both from increased manufacturing activity and, more recently, a revival in housing. Europe and Japan are also finally demonstrating signs of economic growth after being mired in recession for most of the past year.
In general, an improving global backdrop will be very supportive for North American equities. Dividend paying equities of stable, high-quality companies remains the favoured asset class.
