Quarterly Update
The Bank of Canada (BoC) held the overnight rate at 1.00 percent in its December 4 policy announcement. It noted that third quarter economic activity was weak, but it continues to expect that economic growth, driven by consumption and business investment, will improve during 2013. The BoC maintained its tightening bias and kept its forward-looking statements regarding the potential need to remove some of the existing stimulus. It continues to comment that before acting it will consider both global and domestic economic developments, including the progress of Canadian household imbalances. The Fund maintained its asset mix, with the weighted average maturity targeted at around 54 days.
