Quarterly Update
The Fund generated a positive return during the quarter, reflecting improvement in the financial results of basic materials, resources, building products and media. Most of the Fund’s U.S. investments continue to show steady credit quality improvement as they tend to use portion of their free cash flows to improve their capital structure. The portfolio adviser believes growth in the U.S. will be slowed by tax increases and tighter fiscal measures, but these changes should be beneficial over the longer term as an improved fiscal framework will provide corporations, investors and consumers with more clarity and confidence. Emerging market growth is expected to be better in 2013, offsetting any European or U.S. slowdowns and allowing emerging market issuers to gradually improve their credit profiles.
