Quarterly Update
The price of gold declined during the quarter, from a high of US$1790 early in the period to a low of US$1648 toward the end as investors reacted to the approach of the U.S. fiscal cliff deadline. However, ongoing events related to the debt crises in the euro zone and the U.S. as well as global economic uncertainty should continue to support the price of gold. The portfolio adviser continues to believe that longer-term concerns, including those related to the U.S. dollar, could lead to further increases in investment demand for gold. The Fund’s focus remains on gold and precious metals companies with superior resource assets, proven management teams and the ability to finance growth, with meaningful exposure to junior companies that have attractive exploration and development projects.
