Portfolio Update
For the quarter ended June 30, 2011, the Fund underperformed the S&P MidCap 400 Index, with both posting negative returns. Broadly speaking, sector allocation accounted for the underperformance, while stock selection was largely neutral. A significant detractor was consumer staples, where stock choices and limited positioning hurt relative results. Industrials and business services hurt as well, due primarily to stock selection. A boost to relative returns came from a strategic emphasis on health care and stock holdings in consumer discretionary sectors. Stock choices in energy also proved beneficial, though a substantial allocation to the sector partly offset that positive effect.
